1. Summer Safety Tips
Summer brings fun—and risks. Follow these local safety tips to stay protected:
-
Hydration & Heat Awareness Drink water throughout the day and avoid activity during peak heat (11a.m.–4p.m.). Recognize signs of heat illness: dizziness, nausea, headaches.
-
Water & Recreation Safety Always supervise kids near pools or ponds. Wear Coast Guard-approved life vests and know CPR basics.
-
Grilling & Outdoor Fire Safety Keep grills at least 10feet from structures, never leave them unattended, and have an extinguisher nearby. Regularly clean grease buildup.
-
Storm Preparedness Even in summer, storms can arrive quickly. Monitor weatheralerts, seek shelter during lightning or heavy rain, and avoid walking through floodwaters.
2. Carbon Monoxide (CO) Safety
CO is odorless and colorless—know the risks:
-
Install & Maintain CO Detectors Place alarms outside sleeping areas and test them monthly.
-
Proper Equipment Care Annual inspections of furnaces, water heaters, fireplaces, and generators are essential.
-
Generator Safety Run only outdoors, away from windows or vents—even during power outages.
-
Know the Symptoms Headache, dizziness, nausea, and confusion are red flags. If CO poisoning is suspected, get fresh air and call 911 immediately.
-
Never Use Charcoal Indoors Burning coals or grills inside—even in garages—pose serious CO danger.
